Built Environment 2
Tips to reduce carbon emissions and save money:
1. Turn off lights when they’re not in use
2. Don’t leave appliances on stand by. They still use up to 25% of their normal power in stand-by mode.
3. Turn off chargers and power supplies when you’ve finished with them.
4. Turn down your thermostats by 1 degree Celsius, decrease the amount of time your heating is on and wear a jumper in the house. You’ll make significant energy and financial savings.
5. Whenever you can, have a shower instead of a bath.
6. Swap your regular light bulbs for energy saving ones. They use up to 80% LESS energy than normal ones and now come in lots of different shapes and sizes to fit all your light fittings.
7. Don’t fill your kettle up full every time you want a cuppa. Fill just enough for what you need and you’ll save on water and energy costs.
8. Dry your clothes on the line in summer or on a clothes horse indoors. Using the dryer only uses more energy, costing you more.
9. Foil back your radiators to reflect heat back into the room. It’s a really cheap and easy way to prevent heat loss and rising heating bills.
