Transport

Travel by car and phone is greatly contributing to climate change, congestion, noise and air pollution. 25% of all UK carbon emissions come from our travel. The daily school run alone contributes 3.2 million tonnes of CO2 into the air every year.

By simply trying to reduce the number of journeys made by car and plane, you can really contribute to helping the UK reduce its annual emissions. Try starting a car sharing pool on the school run and a few times a week use public transport to get to work. Choosing to cycle or walk shorter distances has a very beneficial impact on both your health and your wallet.

Tips for greener motoring:
1. Kill your engine when you’re not moving.
2. Buy an eco-friendly auto.
3. Don’t use air conditioning in your car unless its necessary.
4. Join or set up a car-sharing pool.
5. Consider how you can reduce the number of car journeys you make to and from work.
6. Travel off-peak whenever you can avoid sitting in traffic jams.
7. Service your car to keep it running efficiently.
8. Cut out domestic flights within the UK and take the train or bus instead.
9. Offset any flights you take.
10. Take the train, bus or coach to make long journeys instead of your car.
